Me understanding math= me understanding people speak Spanish

While I was sitting in my Math 101 class today, I decided that me trying to understand math is very similar to me understanding and speaking Spanish. When I hear people speak Spanish, I can pick out bits and pieces of what they are saying and sort of make sense out of it. However, when it comes down to me writing or speaking (or writing) a sentence that makes sense, it takes a long time and is sometimes very difficult for me to create a statement that can be understood.

When I am sitting in my math classes, I feel like I'm listening to my professor and the rest of the students speaking Spanish. I can pick out terms that I understand, but when they are having a conversation about a problem, I feel like I'm listening to two fluent Spanish speakers where I don't completely understand what they are saying and then I get very lost in trying to understand how to complete a problem.
